Teruel Airport consolidates its position as an international benchmark in the aerospace industry with a new hangar and production hall for stratospheric airships

Teruel Airport has taken this Tuesday another step towards its consolidation as an international reference in the aerospace industry with the laying of the first stone of the new hangar and production hall for stratospheric airships, which will be a reality by the end of 2026 and which will introduce, for the first time in the history of this infrastructure, an entirely productive activity that will be added to those of recycling, dismantling, painting and parking of aircraft and testing of engines for PLD Space’s Miura rockets.

The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, led this symbolic act in which he was accompanied by the Government Delegate in Aragon, Fernando Beltrán; the President of the Teruel Airport Consortium and Minister of Development, Octavio López; the Vice-President and Mayor of Teruel, Emma Buj; the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Manuel Blasco; as well as the other members of the Governing Council.

President Azcón pointed out during his speech that the construction of the hangar and the stratospheric zeppelin production hall is “one of the most important actions in the history of this airport and, of course, is the one that will involve the greatest investment effort on the part of the Consortium, a work estimated at 39.7 million euros with a completion period of 20 months and which will be finished by the end of 2026”.

With its 27,000 square meters and a height in its highest part that will exceed 57 meters, the building will have 3 different areas: one for the reception of goods, another for the production of airships and a third reserved for hangar functions. It will be executed by the joint venture formed by Aldesa Construcciones and Industria de Infraestructuras Ideconsa.

“The story of a success.”

Jorge Azcón had words of recognition for all those who have made it possible for the history of Teruel Airport to be “the history of a success story attributable to those who, from these two administrations that created the Consortium almost 20 years ago, have worked to promote an infrastructure that, today, is one of the great economic and employment engines of the province of Teruel”.

In this sense, the President of the Government of Aragon has highlighted the more than 700 jobs that it currently generates and that the successive expansions and the consequent increase in activity “will mean that in a couple of years there will be more than 1,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs”.

On this issue, President Azcón mentioned some of the most important projects to be undertaken at the airport during 2025. Apart from the construction work and the hangar for the production of high altitude airships type HAPS that will be launched into the stratosphere with the made in Teruel seal, 2025 will be the year of the expansion of the airport Terminal Building, which will double its office space and will be equipped with a cafeteria and restaurant area. It will also be the year in which the apron and aircraft parking area will be expanded.

In addition, Teruel Airport has already started the process to be able to operate in low visibility conditions with the tender, at the beginning of the year, of the instrument flight procedure that will allow it to increase the number of operations, currently around 1,100 per year.

Azcón recalled that what is now a worldwide phenomenon and aspires to continue growing in surface area and activities to position itself as an international benchmark in the aeronautical and aerospace industry is the result of an investment commitment of 160 million euros in the period 2006-2027, made possible thanks to the Teruel Investment Fund (FITE), co-financed in equal parts by the Government of Aragon and the Government of Spain.

Letter to the Ministry of Territorial Policy

The president announced that the Government of Aragon has sent this morning a letter to the Ministry of Territorial Policy to organize a meeting that will result in “an advance of the signing of this year’s FITE” and, thus, “have more time to make more investments like this one”. “Teruel airport is the best example of what the FITE should be,” he said.

Azora will build a data center in Villamayor de Gállego with an initial investment of 1,100 million euros

The President of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, announced this Thursday a business investment by the Azora Group, which will build a data center in Villamayor de Gállego with an initial investment of 1.1 billion euros. The company contemplates a possible expansion from the initial 150 MW to 300 MW, which would imply raising the investment to 1,950 million euros. The Governing Council has previously approved the DIGA related to this initiative.

The project, called ‘Tillion Aragón’, will generate 1,040 jobs during its useful life. In case of expansion, the number of jobs would rise to 1,770. “This is a new business commitment that joins many others that we have been announcing over the last months and weeks and that reinforces two indisputable realities. The first is that the Aragonese economy is going through a vibrant moment, unprecedented in terms of attracting companies and investments and job creation. And secondly, that Aragon has consolidated its position as a leading region in the European technology sector”, he indicated.

“Today, technology companies from all over the world that are looking for a place to deploy their data centers consider Aragon as a preferential destination, because this land has the optimal conditions for their development,” acknowledged the head of the regional executive.

Grupo Azora, the developer of the project, already has the permits for access and connection to the electricity transmission grid, which were granted last year by Red Eléctrica de España. The project will include not only the urbanization and construction of the data center, but also the auxiliary infrastructure necessary for its operation, including the electrical connection, the data networks and the connection to the fiber optic network, water supply and sanitation, and road access.

Regarding the impact on the Aragonese economy, the president indicated that “it is estimated that the construction and start-up of the 150 MW data center will have an estimated impact on the Aragonese Gross Domestic Product of 5,487 million euros. In the case of a possible expansion to 300 MW, the impact of the ‘Tillion Aragón’ project on the Aragonese economy would reach 9,305 million Euros”.

“It is also interesting to consider the fiscal footprint of the project, whose total estimated contribution, between direct and indirect taxes, will be 138 million euros. In the case of reaching 300 MW, this contribution would rise to 193 million euros”, he pointed out.

Another noteworthy aspect,” added Jorge Azcón, ”is the environmental perspective of the project, as the Azora group’s data center has been designed with a firm commitment to sustainability. “Among its main features are the reduction of water consumption by using advanced cooling technology that will avoid the intensive use of water. Thanks to a closed-loop system, annual water consumption will be equivalent to the average of 25 homes.”

“In addition, the use of energy will be 100% renewable, either through self-consumption with solar and wind power plants or by purchasing electricity from green energy producers,” he added.
